"Cool" .

What is "cool"? The iceberg pictured is, no doubt, the physical representation of "cool". However, the scientists tell us that they are disappearing with alarming alacrity, and the North Pole will be clear water in the near future. Perhaps we should look elsewhere for a definition. The American Heritage Dictionary gives the definition: "marked by indifference, disdain or dislike"  Well, that's not too inviting. Perhaps we should take the slang definition from the same source: "Excellent, first-rate, superior". I much prefer that one, even though some would no doubt complain that an erudite institution like a book store should not stoop to slang.

"Books"

more or less speaks for itself: this is a book store after all. It is primarily, a pre-read book store, which is a posh way of saying "second hand books. let me say right from the beginning, there is nothing wrong with pre-read. Just because someone else has had first sight of a book, it doesn't mean that there are any fewer words on the page than when it left the printer. Mostly, they are gently used, but for high demand titles, slightly foxed examples are offered, if that is the only copy available. For more details click here.

New books are obtained on request. All newer titles are readily available, and can be obtained at 48 hours notice. 20% discount is offered on all hard cover books, 10% on all paper-backs.

"Coffee"

is also self evident. Espresso Paulo is a coffee shop integrated into the book store. the picture shows that we serve the prettiest lattes in Metrowest. What is not evident is the exquisite quality of the coffee served (see "Making a Good Cup of Coffee"). Not only do we use the best practice in the preparation of the coffee, we use the best possible coffee available, locally roasted, using green beans from the highest (therefore best) plantations. The majority of the coffee we serve and sell is fair trade and organically grown.
